Entertainment aside, people still had the problem of communicating directly with others off island. Citizen Band radios, usually called CBs, became the rage in the 1980s, especially in place that didn't have good land line phones. For many they were the precursor of the cellphone. This girl in Ulithi is using a CB to contact a friend somewhere in the atoll.
