| US Navy officials, headed by Commander Ben Wyatt, met with leaders on Bikini in February 1946 to make known their plan to conduct nuclear testing on the island. At a public meeting, Wyatt asked if the people would sacrifice their atoll "for the good of mankind and to end all wars." |
