Ever since foreign ships began visiting the islands, men came ashore to stay--some as deserters and beachcombers, some as castaways, some as traders. This is a list of those foreigners who came to Micronesia to stay--at least for a while. It includes foreigners who are proven to have lived ashore Palau, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and the Marshalls during the 18th and 19th centuries. The list is organized first by island groups, then alphabetically by name. Follow the island group links below to begin a search. Dates are the years we know that a person lived in the islands. Often the overall stay was probably much longer. All references are followed by abbreviated sources.
