This sketch shows the layout of Agana a century earlier, during the early 1800s. The plaza, shown at the right, is a feature of all Spanish colonial towns. At one end of the plaza stood the government building, while at the other was the church. The people from the upper social classes lived on the streets closest to the center of town.
