MicSem Studio

In 1994 MicSem acquired a modest studio set-up and began producing video programs for television. Since then we have completed more than 60 programs in the "Island Topics" television series. The programs cover a wide range of subjects--eg. changing women's roles, health services, migrant labor, alcohol and drug addiction, the highs and lows of island education systems, use of land, the island ecosystem, and the legal system. These programs, all of which are targeted at Micronesian audiences, represent MicSem's latest thrust in community education.

The video programs include carefully edited documentaries and dramas featuring a Micronesian cast. They are broadcast on local television stations throughout the area: in the Marshalls, Palau and the Northern Marianas, as well as in each of the states of the FSM. Copies are distributed to select educational institutions in the region. A comprehensive listing of the videos is maintained here, and are available at cost upon request (VHS or DVD - NTSC). All programs are in English.

The MicSem media studio has converted to digital production since 2001 and is now equipped to provide copies of programs in standard DVD format as well as VHS videotapes.
Besides the video production, MicSem has occasionally produced several radio programs in local languages. These are recorded using Digital Audio Tape (DAT) technology and output to compact disk for distribution to radio stations.

The MicSem studio is also equipped to handle older formats such as 8mm and 16mm film. Older island footage is converted to digital format and then used in our productions.
