Men in a Pohnpeian family parade around their home in Kamar carrying rifles.  Soon after assuming control of the islands, the German authorities tried to disarm the local population.  Chuukese complied with German orders, turning in over 400 weapons in 1904.  Pohnpeians, however, kept many of their firearms despite repeated German efforts to persuade them to surrender them.
