| Many of the traders chose to make their island a permanent home. Charlie Irons, pictured here with his family, began in 1880 as a trader on Puluwat, one of the outer islands in Chuuk. Irons, an Englishman, founded one of the most influential families in Chuuk. Today his descendants manage Truk Trading Company (TTC). |
