FIELDS & INSTALLATIONS: Water at the Guam Air Depot comes from wells dug by army engineers. Tank trucks pull up under the pipe at the left and fill up, then carry the precious liquid to troop areas where lister bags and improvised containers are filled. It’s valuable stuff in the tropics, as this picture indicates, and every drop must be saved. 1945.

ARMAMENT: Orote Bay, Guam, on 13 Feb.1945 (East Longitude Date). North American P-51s are loaded with ammunition before going ashore. The planes were carried on the flight and hangar decks from Oahu to Guam. 84 officers and 100 enlisted men were carried on the voyage. L-R: Cpl. Gene L. Davis, Mortons Gap, Kentucky; Sgt. Floyd M. Fannon, 1126 Bliestein St., Cody, Wyoming; and S/Sgt. Leland B. Williams, 319 East 1st St.. Wewoka, Oklahoma. The decks were extremely crowded and it was necessary to crawl on hands and knees to move about.

Ground facilities needed for these huge bombers require remodeling the contours of thousands of acres. From the landing of the aviation engineers on the island to the dropping of the bombs on Tokyo, the entire operations represents closely integrated teamwork and planning among engineers, bomb groups and ground echelons. 1945.
