Machine gun squads are moving up front lines. Battered Japanese air-raid shelter and sheered coconut trees are evidence of the terrific naval and air bombardment that preceded the landing.

After several threats to dynamite the cement dugout by the Marines, this reluctant Japanese, wearing a stomach bandage, gives himself up. Both prisoners were rushed to the medical aid station on the beach.
