ARMAMENT – PALAU ISLANDS: S/Sgt. Joseph (TriggerJoe) Simoes of Fall River, Mass., readies the twin-fifties of a 7th AAF Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber shortly before a pre-dawn takeoff from an advanced base in the Palaus. Not one of the Iwo Busters, this B-24 is member of a squadron which has been hitting Corregidor from a western Pacific base. On night missions, the tail position is number one defense against Japanese fighters.
